Innit Gathering : Lets Get the Yee Sang On!

As the Chinese New Year festivities are up, it was only the matter of time before we bloggers were going to come up with something accordingly. This would not be the first time the usual residents of Innit took the initiative to organize a meet up but I've been such a douche to miss out on so many so I am quite pleased to be able to join in on this one.

[A Taste of the South!]

So we managed to organize and make our way to a Malacca cuisine in One Utama, which also offered their special Lou Sang menu in conjunction to the Chinese New Festivities. Now I am one brave enough to admit that I have very little (or close to none) information on what exactly a lou sang or yee sang is, as pointed out by the people that was sitting in the same table with us. Therefore, coming to this dinner would be a way to find out once and for all what exactly do we need to do.

What was really great about that night is that the gathering boasted the largest number of attendees from any of the Innit gatherings in the past and I was glad I got the opportunity to join in. Despite the madness of traffic out in town that day (due to the Le Tour de Langkawi race), so many made the effort to turn out which I thought was great!

The night featured your regular faces in Innit as well as the Nuffnang-sphere. Unfortunately for me I didn't get the memo about the dress code (or maybe I just forgot to read the invitation properly) about everyone wearing prosperous red for the night, in which I managed to make myself stick out like a sore thumb in the crowd.

[Five Beauties and One Photobomb Mouse!]

[No textbooks while having fun!]

[punching the Munkey]

So the general idea for the night was to have a nice dinner together followed by the main event of the night which would be the Yee Sang session. Now I don't know much about the culture for this, but if you are going to give me permission to play with food for cultural reasons, I am so going to do it.

One thing I realized that night was despite the recent event regarding food reviews and bloggers (read here) there were some questions on whether or not bloggers would now be more reserved when it comes to giving food review. Would this mean that bloggers would no longer be interested to do food reviews, with the fear that a bad review would get them in trouble?

[No chance in hell...]

For all the right reason, the food in the restaurant was quite good, considering that I have never heard or been to the place before. Your usual dishes or Peranakan and Malay dishes which really did tickle the taste buds!

After dinner came the main attraction of the night which is the Yee Sang that we're about to destroy. The people at my table were nice enough to explain little ol' ignoramus like myself about what the dish is all about. The difference between the two, Yee Sang  and Lou Sang would be that the earlier is the what the dish itself is called and the later being the action of mixing the dish itself. The more and higher you mix the thing, the more luck you would be able to get for the year. Now I know.

[Me getting a bit too excited for the action]

[Calm before the storm..]

[RUMBLE!!!]

[Chopstick War!]

[war...war is ugly...]

In the end of the day, the entire gathering was a huge success and it was really great to see and meet new people from a platform that I'm quite used to. Hopefully that this won't be the last time we would have this gathering of bloggers in town and hope to see more new bloggers attending events like this again.
