I remembered I was 9 years old that time, My Dad told me that we need to go watch an event, where the hope of a nation rests on the shoulders of a group of men to tackle one of the most mightiest badminton team in the world at that time. I had no idea what he was talking about but by the end of the night, the deafeaning screams and cheers of Malaysian supporters was amazing. Adults openly shed tears of joy. Strangers who never met before celebrated together in a fashion which even a younger version of myself could appreciate. Malaysia is now the Thomas Cup champions.

Since then, we have been dreaming to win the covenant trophy again and for valid reason: we have the technology, talent and even support and yet we still have yet to have that same feeling I once had in 1992. Yesterday, we had a shot once again at the trophy, fielding the very best of our side against the Chinese giants. Yet, we succumbed to their strength without even putting a fight.
[ So close yet so far ]
In the end, we were shown out the door looking like novices in a professional game and we have only ourselves to blame. Perhaps now that we are now in this predicament, the thoughts of the Malaysian public would be one thing, who's fault is it?
The matter is now, as a avid Malaysian supporter in most sports, my heart broke a little knowing what has happened in the competition and like most people, I would want opinions and thoughts on why our failure to achieve in the competition and who'se fault it should be.
Is it the players? The government? or even the support from the general public?

Malaysia...haizz...but...nanged u la :3
ReplyDeleteAlthough we "played" like novices, to get to the semis of the Thomas cup is no small feat either.
ReplyDeleteWhat we as a nation need to do is rally behind our players and not boo them. The last thing that a team wants is to not have home ground advantage at all. Every boo for a Malaysian, is a cheer for the opposite team!
